Leah is off and “running” so I am getting back to business. I spent the last few months setting up an RoR clustering environment for an new startup that my wife has decided to pursue. I actually quit my job to help her out (I owed her for dealing with my startup hoping the last 5 years or so), and now that that is done I am back at work!
You can expect the blog to start back up soon as I deploy some new technology that I have not worked with before! Should be a good time, stay tuned.
I have been obsessed recently with the book that I am reading (see it in the sidebar). Today while browsing a new aggregator I came across this little treat of an article. Apparently phone phreaking is still going on. I had thought with the relative ease of getting on the net these days that most of the “hacking” would have been done on the internet. Here is the article about a young protege in East Boston. Compliments of wired.com

One of the great benefits of working for startups, dogs encouraged!
Leah and I have been experiencing some serious wifi outages in the house these days. Check out the traffic! This morning I was kicked off of our wifi ap and joined one of the neighbors automatically and I didn’t notice the growl. I was soon browsing the neighbors G4 thinking he had hacked my AP somehow even though of course it is secured…
I finally broke down and purchased a new laptop. It has been a while since I purchased anything related to computers. I typically let whatever company I am working for provide my machines. With Dells new push into the linux space, and with a fine looking, power house, tiny laptop in the M1330 I had to pull the trigger. I spent about two weeks with Vista Ultimate on it. What a terrible decision that was! This morning I was reading my tech blogs and and so I stumbled upon the ad for the M1330 with Ubuntu installed! How psyched was I? I searched out the Dell wiki –> http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ubuntu_7.10 from here you can download a factory install iso. 30 minutes later the laptop is back up and running, this time with out all the bloat! If you have this laptop, get rid of vista an put Ubuntu on it.
